A few weeks back, the town of Crested Butte announced they would reopen to outside visitors. Finally, Vail Resorts has released a statement announcing that the resort would reopen on Friday, June 26th. Summer has finally arrived and we are excited to see the lifts spinning and the mountain come alive again.

The statement mentioned “Resorts will open with a limited summer footprint focusing on mountain access and scenic lift rides. Lodging, restaurants, retail, biking and other activities will vary by location.” For Crested Butte this means that the Silver Queen chairlift will begin to operate for scenic rides and hiking trails will begin to open.

Part of the Covid-19 restrictions that Crested Butte has put in place include social distancing and limited seating at restaurants. Also they will not be accepting cash throughout the resort. The Butte 66 restaurant will offer grab n’ go type food and beverages for its guests. The resort is also asking guests to wear facial coverings when in high traffic areas and indoors. This will mean covering up when waiting in line and riding chairlifts. While hiking, please make sure to maintain a 6 foot distance from others.

This is the first step in Colorado’s resorts returning to normal operations. See Crested Butte’s website for more up to date information on what will be opening and when.

For lodging, the resort recommends maintaining physical distancing from other guests as well as employees. What better way to do that than to book an entire home for your stay. Check out Deluxuri and Rentalz to see what properties fit your needs.

Enjoy the great Colorado outdoors!

In my opinion, August might be the best month to visit Crested Butte.  Warm summer days will sun kiss your skin, while cool evenings give a taste of the fall air upon us.  The calendar says summer, and it sure does feel like it with average temperatures into the 70’s and low 80’s.  The nights however, will start to dip down into the mid 40’s providing that cozy mountain autumn feel.

Summer months bring almost as many visitors to Crested Butte as the winter months, however visitor numbers drop a bit in August, especially when kids go back to school.  The town is still lively, but not quite as crowded, which makes it a great month to visit Crested Butte.

The first week in August provides for one of the best art events in the summer featuring the annual Crested Butte Art Festival, which just celebrated its 47th year.  The Creative Arts District on Historic Elk Avenue is where over 165 jury-selected artist from around the world have booths set up displaying all kinds of artistic work.  The downtown scene, along with the mountain backdrop make for a fun stroll through the festival, all while enjoying impressive art.

August also provides for incredible biking and hiking trails.  In fact, Crested Butte is known for legendary biking where all levels can enjoy the mountain trails around town.  Hiking is just as glorious to get out into the mountains and enjoy beautiful aspen forests, gentle meandering streams and views for miles.  While you are out among the streams and rivers, cast a fly rod to see if those legendary rainbow and brown trout will take a bite.  Fishing in August is also at its prime.  The snow melt has run off, which has allowed for a steady, slower run.

With all of the amazing outdoor adventures along with beautiful summer days, August is a great time to put a visit to Crested Butte on your list!

Looking for a goofy challenge? On June 25th, a unique opportunity will present itself in Crested Butte. Named the “Chainless World Championships”, people of all backgrounds will be dressing up in ridiculous costumes, removing the chains from their bikes, weighing them down, and racing for seven miles from Kebler Pass into downtown Crested Butte while braking as least as possible! There is talk that the date may change, so be sure to check the  site beforehand.

Calling music lovers! Alpenglow: Free Outdoor Concerts are back this year! Every Monday for five weeks starting on Monday, June 28th, a variety of great musicians will be hitting the Center for the Arts outdoor stage this summer. Jillian Liebl, the associate director of development, said, “We’re all incredibly excited for Alpenglow. It’s that magical place where long-time locals and part-time residents and visitors and young and old can all come together.”

Being the Wildflower Capital of Colorado, Crested Butte’s signature Everything Wildflower Festival is happening from July 9th – 18th! It’s going to be the best two weeks in Crested Butte all summer long, so don’t miss it! If you can’t make it to the Wildflower Festival this year, get this! There are a variety of other wildflower events throughout the summer in June and all the way through July. See all the events in the festival’s program guide.

Starting the end of July until October 1st, the Crested Butte Music Festival is happening again! From jazz to mariachi to brilliant Mozart pieces, the live concerts are going to be epic this year. See full schedule here.
