Thanksgiving is extra special in Crested Butte because it falls immediately after opening day for the ski slopes. On Wednesday, November 24, visitors can finally return to the slopes! While the skiable areas tend to be limited, there is plenty of territory to cover. Plus, you’ll have the honor of being able to say you were one of the first to hit the snow in Crested Butte! Hit the slopes all day and then enjoy Thanksgiving dinner in the evening. 

If you want to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner out, then you’ll have plenty of options. Coal Creek Grill, Elk Ave. Prime, and 9380 Tavern  offer delicious Thanksgiving dinners each year. Keep your eyes open for special Thanksgiving deals at other local restaurants! 

Smaller crowds than normal mean that you’ll have an easier time getting a table at Crested Butte’s favorite restaurants and apres ski spots during Thanksgiving week. Reservations are a breeze. You can live your foodie dreams and visit all of Crested Butte’s top-notch dining establishments! OpenTable has a list of many of the restaurants currently taking reservations, but there are also many unlisted!

After Thanksgiving, hit up the shops and knock out some of your holiday shopping. There are plenty of unique gifts to purchase from the many wonderful local stores. Crested Butte’s shops on Elk Avenue are a great place to start. Browse the charming main street and find a perfect, distinct gift for anyone.

The yurt can seat 40 people and it’s heated by a wood stove; it’s only accessed by skis or snowshoes, so it’s a great adventure just to make it to dinner. It’s a short trail, so you don’t need to worry about being exposed in the dark and cold — in general, the trek takes a half-hour for beginner cross country skiers and about 15 minutes for experienced ones. Plus, the organization offers guides and a van to the trail head, so you won’t be on your own if you don’t want to be!

2. Grab Dinner At The Dogwood

If you’re up for a night in town, The Dogwood is one of Crested Butte’s favorite dinner spots. They have a special Valentine’s Day dinner, so be sure to make reservations in advance. Sip on one of The Dogwood’s town-famous cocktails, including the Beetnik, Bluebird, and Romeo y Julieta. You can’t go wrong with any of their rum, tequila, whiskey, gin, or vodka drinks.

For food, The Dogwood is known for its flavorful spins on American classics. Choose between mac & cheese, fondue, or even wontons from this fusion menu.

3. Take Pictures At Washington Gulch

If you do a quick Google search of Crested Butte images, you’ll most likely see Washington Gulch featured in your search results. The most iconic place in Crested Butte, Washington Gulch is a picture-perfect place for a Valentine’s Day hike, picnic, or photo shoot. Even though it’s best known for the wildflowers, there’s no bad time of year to check out Washington Gulch.

Celebrate the 4th of July in Crested Butte

The 4th of July is one of the busiest days of the year in Crested Butte! There are lots of events that take place throughout the day. The 3rd and Elk Vendor Village will take place from 10 AM to 3 PM. Guests can listen to live music, grab food, receive a face painting, and shop! There will be a patriotic parade at 11 AM. From 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, there will be a free concert at the Center for the Arts Outdoor Stage. This is part of the Alpenglow concert series and is sure to get you dancing! At 9 PM, head to Mt. Visit the Crested Butte Museum 

The Crested Butte Museum is full of historic collections and excellent exhibits dedicated to preserving the history of Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley. They are a great place to learn about local heritage! 

Grab a Local Craft Beer

Support the local craft beer scene by grabbing a crisp, American brew! There are lots of breweries in the area, including (but not limited to!)  Irwin Brewing and Eldo Brewery.
